LOVE HELPS
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1 John 3:16 NLT
A true test of love for the brethren is in our response to the brethren. We know what true love is because Jesus gave up His life for us. This means the reason we have tasted of true love, and know what it is, is because Jesus acted it out through His death for us.
This goes on to be an example for us to follow. Jesus didn't say He loves us, and then let us continue to suffer in our sins. He could help us, and He went ahead to do so, even when it meant death for Him! If we love our brothers and sisters the same way Jesus loved us, then we should be ready to go the extra mile for them.
The next verse gives a really simple example. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? (1 John 3:17 NLT). You see, true love does not only talk. It also acts. It helps.
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. (1 John 3:18 NLT). It's really important to act out your love. That's when love becomes substance. When it is exhibited, and demonstrated. Then truly, others can share in your love. Because of love, whenever you can help, go ahead and help.
Prayer: I thank you dear Lord for making me a child of your love. I walk in love. I respond in love. I am full of love. And I act out my love, in true help to others in Jesus name. Amen.
