THE DANGER OF OLD KNOWLEDGE
But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” Acts 15:5 NKJV
After some of the Pharisees believed in Jesus Christ, and actually became born again, they didn't drop all their pharisitic beliefs immediately. They still taught that it was necessary for people (gentiles in this case) to be circumcised and obey the law of Moses before they're true believers.
These Pharisees were actually believers. The only problem was that they had carried over their old pharisitic knowledge, to mix with the new knowledge of Christ. Their minds weren't yet fully renewed to understand or teach the gospel in truth.
This same thing happens today, when people who have grown with a very different mindset now become Christians. They often find themselves attempting to walk or teach in the light of their old knowledge despite being born again.
This is why a new believer shouldn't rush to teach, but should first submit to be taught and grow. Because after being born again, there's a whole lot of old stuff in the memory and understanding that need to be replaced with the newness of Christ's knowledge.
Affirmation: I refuse to be conformed to the world, or to any knowledge outside of Christ, but I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind in the light of the word of God, that I might think, talk and walk like Jesus Christ. Amen.
