 The Person Of The Holy Spirit 

We know and hear about God the Father and God the Son, but most Christians today do not understand who the Holy Spirit is. 

Before I became fully aware of this wonderful person of the Holy Spirit, I always saw Him as a non-existent and lesser/unimportant person of the trinity; but this isn’t true. The Holy Spirit is God, all powerful, all mighty. He is fully God, co-equal, co-eternal with God the Father and God the Son. He is Almighty God. 

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

• The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God: Gen 1:2 “Now d earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the SPIRIT OF GODwas hovering over the waters.”
• He is the power of God:  Luke 4:14 “And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee and there went out a fame of him...” to tell you that even Jesus could not start his ministry without the power of the Holy Spirit. Also in Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said to her.. the Holy Spirit shall come on you and the power of the highest shall overshadow you..”
• He is the promise of the Father:  Luke 24:49: When Jesus was about to go into heaven, he told his disciples that he is going to send what his father promised but they ought to stay in the city until they have been clothed with the power from on high”

 The Holy Spirit is a person and not a thing!!

Like I said earlier, I saw the Holy Spirit as a non existent and lesser part of the trinity, most Christians today see him as just an influence , a thing you just command. But with deeper understanding of his person.. I got to understand that he is indeed real and the way you and I feel, he does too. When Jesus about the Holy Spirit to his disciples; he speaks of the Spirit as if he is speaking of a personal friend. John14:15-16 “ And I will ask the father and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever, the Spirit Of truth.. the world cannot accept him because it neither sees nor know him...”

The Holy Spirit is a person.. he is not an impersonal influence or force. He is not a thing!!

• he thinks (acts 15:24-28)
• He grieves (Ephesians 4:30)
• He speaks (acts 1:16)
• He decides (1 Corinthians 12:11) and so many more.. 

What does the Holy Spirit do?

• He testifies: The Holy Spirit testifies with our spirit that is he makes it known to our being that we are God’s children . It is by the Spirit we are able to cry “Abba Father” Romans 8:15-16
• He reveals all truth to us and brings into remembrance everything Jesus said. He is the Spirit of truth (John 16:12-13). We can’t confess that Jesus is Lord without the help of the Holy Spirit.
• He is our guarantee of what is to come: Ephesians 1:14 “The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and he has purchased us to be his own people...”
• He intercedes for us: Romans 8:26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”

The Holy Spirit is the fulfilled promise of the Father.. the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus was on earth and promised his disciples that he won’t leave them comfortless,  like orphans without parents. He had to go to the father so that the promise of his father can come on earth. While Jesus is in heaven seated at the right hand of the Father, the Holy Spirit is here on earth continuing the ministry of Jesus Christ. Speaking to our hearts who Jesus is and speaking into our spirits that Jesus is coming back soon. Revelation 22:20 “He who testifies to these things says ‘Yes I am coming soon. Amen come Lord Jesus.”

The Holy Spirit is a lot of wonderful things. He is our helper, our comforter, our strength, our guide, our teacher.. he is so wonderful. Oh to know and experience this wonderful person.. we need to get more intimate with him and in order to do this, we need a daily fellowship with this powerful yet humble person of God. We need to understand this wonderful and mighty person because he needs us to see and understand the deep things God has in store for us, he needs us to know Jesus and to draw other people to Jesus.
