THE KNOWLEDGE-HUMILITY PARADOX
1 Corinthians 8:1
Now concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. Nkjv
We have seen that the two secrets to growing in the grace of God are growing in knowledge and living in humility. God Himself upholds and exalts you, giving you more grace. And as you grow in the knowledge of God, grace and peace is multiplied within you, for more exploit. Glory to God!
Now, even though knowledge and humility give birth to the same thing-more grace, there exists a paradox between them. A slight contradiction. Apostle Paul writing to the Corinthian Christians lets them know that knowledge puffs up. In other words, as you grow in knowledge, there's a tendency or temptation to become proud and arrogant. Because apparently, you may be more informed spiritually than those around you.
This simply means that, if you fall for it, you lose humility, and thus you gain no grace. So what's the way out? The same scripture reveals it. Love! Love edifies. Love builds up. Love keeps you humble even with much knowledge. Why? Because when you walk in love, no matter how much you know, you'd only want to help build others up and never to show yourself.
The secret to remaining humble even with much knowledge is to walk in love. Never let your love walk grow cold. Love God and love everyone dearly. The grace of God is sufficient for you. Remain on the Word and in prayers. You're blessed. -TCF
