DON'T DECEIVE YOURSELF 1
James 1:26
Apostle James says, "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain." This statement contains a lot of information. First of all, this means that somebody can deceive his own self. And the way to do this is by speaking wrongly. Talking anyhow. Talking without caution; with an unbridled tongue.
Now many times, we think that an unbridled tongue is that which is insulting to other people and talks badly about them. Well that's only a part of it, but that's not the full scope at all. Apostle James says the person who talks with an unbridled tongue, deceives his own heart. Not another man's heart, but his own heart.
This means that the unbridled tongue referred to here is that tongue by which a person talks down himself by himself. I.e speaks carelessly about himself or into his own life, thereby deceiving himself to be and function like what God didn't make Him to be. You see, when you were born again, God made you to be Christ in you (Galatians 2:20). That's the new creature talked about in Corinthians 5:17.
This means that the only truths about you are the truths about the Christ-Life, as contained in the Word. So to speak truthfully to yourself, is to keep your speech and confession about you consistent with who the Word of God has described you as. Anything short of this is you speaking with an unbridled tongue and deceiving yourself.
We'll continue tomorrow. Remain on the Word and in prayers. You're blessed. -TCF
