LET THE WORD DWELL

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Now it's one thing to receive the word of God by the Holy Spirit, and it's another thing to allow the Word to dwell in you. That's to sink into you and become a part of your mind and soul. Many people don't understand this. Sometimes, people get the Word of God, and are happy about it, then they run off to live's business and quickly run into trouble, and it's as though they never got the Word at all. This is simply because they never allowed the Word of God take root in them.

If you don't let the Word of God sink deep into your inner being (your mind and soul) as soon as you're exposed to challenges, and temptations, you're going to function as though you never got the Word at all. The indwelling of the Word is the renewal of your mind, for you to function in line with God's Word. How do you do this? Colossians 3:16 shows us how. By teaching and admonishing "yourself" using the Word you've received. This has to do with meditation, pondering on, thinking upon the Word.

Nobody is going to do it for you. You have to do it for yourself. This is how to be continually filled with the Spirit to ensure you function in God's will per time(Ephesians 5:18-19). Dwell on the Word by meditating on it. Speaking it to yourself. Thinking on it. Praying it to yourself so that it takes up the space other carnal things formerly occupied within you. When you live like this (being filled with the Word) the Christian life will be very simple, and you'll be ready to use the sword of the Spirit because the Word dwells richly in you. Stay on the Word. You're blessed. -TCF
