THE GIRDLE OF TRUTH
Ephesians 6:14
The armour of truth is described as a girdle or belt. In the Roman army's uniform, the belt served two main purposes. 1. To tuck the rest of the uniform in to be firmly and properly placed. 2. To hold weapons such as the sword or others. This gives us a slight idea of why it's important to know and have truth. The other armour are only going to be properly placed (properly understood and relevant) if a Christian knows the truth and walks in the truth. There are a lot of resources at the disposal of the Christian, but without truth, he wouldn't be aware. A believer can only properly use the sword of the Spirit, if he's aware of and walks in truth. Jesus said those that worship, must worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Why in Spirit and in truth?
In Spirit because without the Spirit of God, worship can't be offered. No matter how "good" a man's acts are, if he doesn't have the Spirit of God, it wouldn't be pleasing to God. Now, in truth because true worship has to be in line with the truth of God's Word. One can have very good intentions, but if his action isn't in line with truth, no matter how good his intentions are, it wouldn't be accepted as worship. This tells us how important it is to sincerely walk with the Spirit of God, in line with the truth about God's Word. You can't talk about truth without recognising the Spirit of Truth. He's the Holy Spirit, and it's only by Him that truth can be obtained. In John 16:13, Jesus made it clear that truth can only be searched out by the Holy Spirit who will "guide us into all truth..." Without the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to know truth. We will continue tomorrow. Remain on the Word. You're blessed. If you haven't received Jesus into your life, believe in your heart that He's the Son of God who died and resurrected for you. Declare with your mouth that He's Lord and saviour of your life. You're blessed. -TCF
